Orrcon Steel Drivers all set for Men of Steel Challenge
Mark Winterbottom and Steve Richards are all set for the inaugural FPR Men of Steel Fitness Challenge presented by Orrcon Steel to be held over the coming two days in the Gold Coast region.
The Orrcon Steel-backed V8 Supercar drivers will be joined by Olympic triathlete hopeful, and three-time winner of the Coolangatta Gold, Caine Eckstein and fellow traithletes Brad Dalrymple and Tyron Easterbrook.
Also participating in the Men of Steel Challenge will be the pair's fellow Ford drivers Paul Dumbrell and James Moffat along with respected News Limited journalist Damien Stannard.
The eight participants will be paired up in teams of two to compete against each other as they battle for the honour of becoming the inaugural winners of the Men of Steel Fitness Challenge.
Beginning at Orrcon Steel's Nerang outlet, the drivers and athletes will undertake a gruelling two days of physical activities. Some of the stages of the challenge will incorporate a rock climbing challenge, a 1km swim, over 15km of running and 50km in cycling legs, an 11km kayak across the Hinze Dam and a 90m abseil near the Binna Burra Lodge in the Nerang National Park.
To be co-ordinated by Ford Performance Racing's Team Physiotherapist Glenn Lindsay, the Men of Steel Challenge is set to take the team's annual pre-season training camp to the next level.
"Every year for the fitness camp we have tried to step it up a notch by incorporating different activities with the aim of taking the drivers outside their comfort zone and undertaking different activities that they wouldn't normally do in their training," said Lindsay.
"The Men of Steel Challenge is a great opportunity for the drivers to test themselves alongside the elite athletes in other sports and certainly it will test their physical endurance along with their mental strength."
The Challenge will mark the completion of the 2010 pre-season training camp which has seen them step in the ring with five-time world kickboxing champion John Wayne-Parr, undertake a simulation with the Special Forces along with lengthy cycles, runs and weight sessions.
This year's striking new livery for the Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon will be unveiled for the first time on the Orrcon Steel Racing website for the first time on Monday February 8.
The 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series is set to kick off in Abu Dhabi on February 18-20, ahead of which the Orrcon Steel-backed FPR Falcons.
